My focus as a school board member is to help move the school district forward and educate all students to meet high standards.

Aside from my work in the field of education, I love writing poetry and have had poems published in several books. I enjoy writing poetry to express my feelings about family, love, my spiritual walk with Christ, special occasions, my surroundings or whatever God drops in my spirit. I plan to share a few poems on this platform, so stay tuned!

I love working in the church, teaching Sunday school, reading scripture, praying, and even speaking on occasions. No, I don’t sing in the choir - haha! My mom once told me if I am asked to serve in any capacity, to say “yes,” but if it’s singing, say “no”. A mother really knows her child; I must admit she was correct.

After spending 35 years in the classroom, I realize more than ever I was called to teach. From teaching, supervising, record-keeping as well as playing a mom, nurse, doctor, psychologist, whatever it took to let them know I cared and they were my investments. Building and establishing relationships has always been very important to me. I have a love for children and it gave me an opportunity to touch, shape, and mold young minds as a role model.  It really was quite interesting to hear them say, “you sound like my mama, my auntie, or my grandma.” I must admit those were the good old days. To see the light bulb turn on when learning is taking place really brought me great joy. You see, my belief is that every child can learn, but it may take some a little bit longer than others. I always set high expectations for my students so when they performed, I knew it was their best.
